GUWAHATI: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma inaugurated the new Interstate Bus Terminal (ISBT) and rolled out 56 electric buses for Guwahati on the first day of the new year.

Modern amenities at the terminal include food vendors, a special area for nursing moms, and a waiting area.

The terminal will provide night bus services and a guest house for overnight stays in an effort to improve the traveler experience.

Furthermore, 56 brand-new electric buses were introduced in Guwahati today, running on newly decided routes after consulting with the district administration.

According to officials, the Assam State Transport Corporation (ASTC) is going to maintain the vehicles to guarantee smooth operations. The fleet in Guwahati will grow to 256 with the addition of the additional buses.

In addition to the transportation, the CM also inaugurated the Paltan Bazar footbridge. The footbridge, which cost Rs 17 crore to build, is anticipated to facilitate smooth pedestrian movement entering and leaving the Guwahati Railway Station.

A senior ASTC official highlighted that the new terminal is designed to enhance passenger comfort with modern amenities such as a waiting room, washrooms, food stalls, and a dedicated space for lactating mothers. Alongside regular bus services, the terminal will also accommodate night buses, providing greater convenience for travelers during late hours.

The move is a part of ASTC's larger initiatives to enhance Assam's public transport infrastructure and offer convenient travel choices.
