Guwahati: In a significant step toward strengthening early education, the Assam government has launched the NIPUN Axom Mission, aligning with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and the national NIPUN Bharat Mission. The initiative, launched on November 16, 2021, by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Education Minister Dr. Ranoj Pegu, aims to ensure that all children in the state achieve Foundational Literacy and Numeracy (FLN) by the end of Grade 3 by 2026-27.

The mission focuses on enhancing teaching practices, improving learning materials, building teacher capacity, and encouraging community engagement. Additionally, the state has taken various initiatives to raise awareness among parents, teachers, and students, including the launch of a theme song, posters, and booklets. With a data-driven approach, NIPUN Axom seeks to create an enabling environment for young learners to acquire essential reading, writing, and numeracy skills, ensuring a strong foundation for their future education.
