GUWAHATI: The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) has accepted the people’s mandate in the just-concluded panchayat election in the state.

The Leader of Opposition (LoO) in the Assam Legislative Assembly, Debabrata Saikia, accepted the people’s verdict in the panchayat election, admitting that the results were not favourable. “We will review the outcome of the panchayat election thoroughly,” he said.

APCC president Bhupen Borah welcomed the party candidates who won the panchayat poll. “We’ll have an overall review of our performance in the panchayat poll. The review will include misuse of the state machinery by the ruling coalition and money and muscle power of the BJP in this panchayat poll. We have already received reports from the district Pradesh Congress committees on the panchayat poll.”

According to the Assam State Election Commission, the Congress won 72 Zilla Parishad seats and 481 AP seats.
