GUWAHATI: The State Educational Research and Training (SCERT), Assam, has sought feedback from Block Elementary Education Officers (BEEOs) and Block Resources Persons (BRPs) of all districts by February if the schools in their respective jurisdictions have adequate number of teachers and other facilities for Ka-Shreni. This has been necessitated as the SCERT is planning to make teachers take classes, including other activities, in Ka-Shreni five hours a day from the academic session 2025-26.

In its letter to the BEEOs and BRPs, the SCERT Director said, “I would like to inform you that as per NCF-FS-2022, we have to give 5 hours of class duration to ‘Ka-shrini’ for conducting activities for the all-round development of children and also facilitating the development of FLN (foundational literary and numeracy) competencies among them. In this regard, we require your feedback regarding the feasibility of staying the ‘Ka-Shreni’ children at school for 5 hours considering the availability of teachers, especially for “Ka-Shreni and other facilities available in school so that we can finalize the timetable’ for the ‘Ka-Shreni” and incorporate it in the academic calendar for the session 2025-26.”

‘NCF-FS’ stands for ‘National Curriculum Framework for Foundational Stage,’ which refers to a document outlining the educational guidelines for young children, typically from ages 3-8, as part of National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. Essentially, it provides a framework for early childhood education in the country.
