Assam Police Arrested Man for Running Fake NGO

GUWAHATI: The personnel of Udalbakra Out Post police on Tuesday arrested a person in connection to a fake NGO which was fraudulent taking money from people on the pretext of proving funds for farming.

The accused has been identified as Rupam Kalita who was arrested from his rented apartment in Dhirenpara area. A native of Parly, Kalita used to impersonate as a bank manager who was associated with an NGO named Sunlight Social Development Society. The NGO used to take Rs. 5,000 to 15,000 from people by stating that they will provide grants for farming.

According to the police, the NGO was being run by Kalita and two of his relatives named Gobinda Kakati and Pompy Kakati. In this regard, a case (620/20) has been registered at Dispur PS under section 406/420 341 IPC. The accused was produced before that court and sent to 3-day police custody.
