Guwahati: Acting on a murder report received via the 112 emergency helpline, a team from Basistha Police Station cracked the case of a brutal killing reported on July 24.

The victim, Mathaios Lyngdoh (45), a truck driver from Meghalaya, was found murdered with severe head injuries at 5 No. Goli, Assamkata. Following the incident, the victim’s family filed an FIR at Basistha Police Station, prompting immediate police action.

Investigation revealed that an altercation had taken place between the victim and the accused. A wooden stick used in the assault, along with other incriminating evidence, was seized from the scene. Pursuing leads, police apprehended the main accused, Phridalin Dhar (54), from Nongbah under Jowai Police Station in Meghalaya. During interrogation, he confessed to the crime.

Legal action has been initiated, and further investigation is underway.
