STAFF REPORTER
GUWAHATI: In the present situation of lockdown across the Country, Assam Police under the leadership of Director General of Police, Assam, Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta, felt the need to have a dedicated focus towards extending help to the Senior Citizens of Assam who are staying alone and who are most vulnerable in this unprecedented situation. In order to reach out to all the senior citizens of Assam who are unattended, in distress and in need of emergency intervention by the administration, Assam Police had released a set of helpline numbers on April 16. These numbers are 6026900974, 6026900975, 9435215029 and 9132699735.
However it has been observed that most of the messages coming on the Helpline Numbers meant for senior citizens are from people who are below 60 years of age and who were seeking financial help, messages requesting Assam Police to facilitate the return of their family members who are presently in other states outside Assam during lockdown, request for sending Police force to disperse people etc. According to the department, such messages make it difficult to focus on messages which required immediate intervention. The team engaged in Helpline is still identifying and providing help to Senior Citizens who are in genuine need of administrative intervention amongst all the calls.
It is again clarified that the Helpline Numbers 6026900974, 6026900975, 9435215029 and 9132699735 are meant only for Senior Citizens.
