GUWAHATI: Police personnel are on duty enforcing the lockdown in the wake of the outbreak of COVID-19 in Assam, as is the case elsewhere in the world. However, how safe are they from the virus that doesn’t discriminate between police personnel and civilians?

A policeman is also scared of the virus as he is as vulnerable as every other. The government has supplied hand sanitizers, masks and other materials that are a must for the police personnel to use. However, a section of police personnel says that the materials supplied to them are not adequate. This section says, “Since we’ve to go to the highways as well as hospitals for strict enforcement of the lockdown, sometimes need to catch a person with our hands. However, we don’t have any hand gloves supplied by the government. Some of us have procured hand gloves on our own, but we appeal to the government to make an adequate supply of hand gloves and other materials.”
