GUWAHATI: The Assam Rail Passengers' Association (ARPA) hailed the flagging off of three trains-the Guwahati-New Lakhimpur Janshatabdi Express, the New Bongaigaon-Guwahati Passenger Train, and the Tinsukia-Naharlagun Express-today. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw flagged off the three trains at Guwahati Railway Station.

In a statement issued to the media today, ARPA general secretary Dipankar Sharma said, "As many as 14 trains remained closed in the state for the past five years. Two of the 14 closed trains-New Bongaigaon-Guwahati Passenger Train and Tinsukia-Naharlagun Express-have been restored today. We are elated at this development. We have been trying relentlessly for the restoration of the trains that remained closed since the COVID days in 2020. Several MPs and the AASU (All Assam Students' Union) also raised the demand for the restoration of the closed trains in the state. We reiterate our demand for the restoration of the remaining closed trains earlier running in the state."

Hailing the Railway Ministry for the introduction of a new train-the Guwahati-New Lakhimpur Janshatabdi Express-Sharma said, "This train will run two days a week. We want this train to run daily, besides increasing its number of stops, so as to benefit the common people. We also place the demand before the Railway Minister to introduce suburban trains in Assam for the benefits of commoners."
