PALASBARI: Continuous rainfall has caused severe erosion in the Pashim Balapara and No. 1 Balasidhi villages of Chhaygaon in Kamrup district, significantly affecting transportation and access to essential services. Local residents have expressed grave concern over the worsening condition of roads and the lack of prompt action from the authorities.

Speaking to The Sentinel, a resident of Pashim Balapara said, “We have informed the Kamrup District Commissioner, Circle Officer, local MLA, and the Flood and River Erosion Management authorities several times, but no solution has been provided so far.”

The erosion has rendered transportation nearly impossible, especially during emergencies. Residents report that during medical emergencies, they are forced to carry patients manually to the nearest hospital due to the unavailability of motorable roads.

Locals are urging the district administration to take immediate action to control the erosion and restore safe connectivity before the situation deteriorates further.

Meanwhile, the Kalahi River in Chhaygaon has turned aggressive, with rising water levels causing dangerous erosion that threatens lives and livelihoods in the area. In a major setback, a poorly constructed geo-bag embankment, which was intended to prevent erosion, has been completely washed away by the river’s strong current, raising serious concerns about public safety.
