Assam: Summer Season Challenges Vegetable Availability: Agriculture Minister Atul Bora

GUWAHATI: The Department of Agriculture, Government of Assam, in collaboration with NABARD and “Villagenama,” inaugurated a two-day national conference titled “Developing Summer Green Vegetable Corridor for Assam and North-East” at the Assam Administrative Staff College on Saturday. Addressing the gathering, State Agriculture Minister Atul Bora described the initiative as a groundbreaking step in the agricultural sector. He highlighted the progressive policies introduced under the robust leadership of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and their impactful results in the state’s agricultural landscape. Minister Bora emphasized that modern technology and scientific approaches are critical for advancing Assam’s agricultural sector. He reiterated the government’s commitment to making Assam one of the top five states in the country, as envisioned by Chief Minister Sarma, through significant development in agriculture and allied sectors. Bora also lauded the recent export of 5 lakh oranges from Assam to Bangladesh as a promising achievement for the state’s agricultural potential.

Dr. Ravi Kota, Chief Secretary of the Assam Government, noted the significant contribution of agriculture to Assam’s economy. He expressed confidence that this national conference would benefit farmers across the region. The conference aims to address the challenges of green vegetable production and availability during the summer season, which is often disrupted by natural calamities such as heavy rainfall and floods.

Agriculture Commissioner and Secretary, and Agricultural Production Commissioner, Aruna Rajoria, termed the conference as an important platform for disseminating knowledge and technology to farmers. She emphasized that this initiative is a vital step in driving the progress of Assam and the North-East’s agricultural sector, stated a press release.
