Assam Teachers' body supports padayatra against National Pension System

ASPTA has decided to take part in the padayatra called by the AAGNPSEA on November 8 in support of replacing the NPS with the Old Pension System.

GUWAHATI: The Assam State Primary Teachers' Association (ASPTA) has decided to take part in the padayatra called by the All Assam Government NPS Employees' Association (AAGNPSEA) on November 8 in support of replacing the NPS (National Pension System) with the Old Pension System. The padayatra will be from Khanapara to Dispur.

According to the AAGNPSEA, over 50,000 teachers, police personnel and other officials will join the padayatra. Over 100 employee leaders across the country, 100 leaders from various State Government employees and teacher organizations and prominent personalities will participate in the padayatra.

ASPTA secretary general Ratul Chandra Goswami said, "The ASPTA, under the banner of the All India Primary Teachers' Federation (AIPTF), has been agitating against the NPS since 2006. We organize awareness meetings among teachers against the ill effects of the NPS. Under the banner of the AIPTF, we sent a memorandum with 23 lakh signatures of primary teachers to the President, the Prime Minister and the Assam Chief Minister on Teachers' Day, demanding the cancellation of the NPS. We have a 'Parliament House gherao' programme in New Delhi under the banner of the AIPTF. We extend our full support to the November 8 padayatra called by the AAGNPSEA. We will take part in the padayatra with our own flag."
