GUWAHATI: The authorities of Central Jail Guwahati have been conducting awareness campaigns on its premises to tackle the coronavirus outbreak. The authorities are maintaining the queue of visitors and are allowing them to get inside the jail premises one by one. The move is to prevent potentially disastrous coronavirus outbreak among prisoners and staff in close quarters where disease can easily spread.
A source of jail authorities said that there is a team of 12 medical staffs including two doctors inside the jail and routine checkups are being conducted for the inmates. On March 18, the jail had 1,348 inmates and 70 staff. Tests are being conducted in the court for the people who are set to be lodged in the jail.
