GUWAHATI: In a decision that is bound to prevent students of Government primary schools from receiving free uniforms on time, the Axom Sarba Siksha Abhiyan Mission (SSA) has directed all District Elementary Education Officers, District Mission Coordinators and Inspectors of Schools to ensure non-utilization till further orders of the Rs 276 crore fund that was released in March this year for FY 2021-2022. SSA Mission Director Roshni Paranji Korati said that the School Management Committees and School Management and Development Committees concerned should be directed not to utilize their respective funds for procurement of uniforms till such time as an order is issued with necessary guidelines by the State Mission Office, Samagra Siksha, Assam. It may be mentioned that one month has already elapsed since the new academic session began in the State. A teacher said on the condition of anonymity that this newly-imposed embargo will ensure that students will not receive their free uniforms at least till August. He further expressed surprise that the funds were released without framing relevant guidelines. There are around 46 lakh students in Government primary schools and they are entitled to receive two sets of free uniforms each year.
