Guwahati: The state BJP on Tuesday firmly declared that the state’s ongoing eviction drives will continue unabated until every inch of illegally encroached land is cleared, framing the campaign as a cultural and political mission to protect the state’s indigenous identity.
Addressing the media, BJP spokesperson Kalyan Gogoi said the eviction operations are not just administrative decisions but part of a “final battle to safeguard the very existence of Assam.” He asserted that the party would not bow to “intimidation or political pressure” and that the drive would continue as a tribute to the 855 martyrs of the Assam Movement.
Commending Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma’s leadership, Kalyan Gogoi said the state government’s anti-encroachment initiatives are essential to restore the rights and security of Assam’s native communities. He accused the Congress party of historically enabling the settlement of Bangladeshi migrants for electoral gains, blaming it for pushing the indigenous population to the brink of an “existential crisis.”
Kalyan Gogoi further alleged that Congress orchestrated a long-term plan to alter Assam’s demography by facilitating migration from minority-dominated border areas into protected lands. He claimed this move was designed to dilute the indigenous population and manipulate electoral outcomes.
Drawing historical references, Kalyan Gogoi invoked Bir Lachit Borphukan, Gopinath Bordoloi, and Bishnu Ram Medhi as icons who defended Assam’s land and cultural integrity, contrasting their legacy with Congress, which he accused of betraying the state by giving protected land to “Bangladeshi settlers.”
He concluded by urging the Congress to “stop siding with infiltrators” and instead support the rights of Assam’s indigenous people. “Under Dr. Sarma’s leadership, the BJP will continue to defend the pride, dignity, and demographic integrity of Assam. The Assamese people are indomitable—they have never accepted subjugation, and they never will,” he said.
