GUWAHATI: Assam Legislative Assembly Speaker Hitendra Nath Goswami formally released a book – Aitihasik Assam Andolan: Juie Pura Xaat Ta Bosor – written by Manash Kumar Mahanta and published by Olympia Prakashan at Guwahati Press Club on Sunday.

Sharing his feelings with those who attended the book release function, Hitendra Nath Goswami said, “The book will help readers know hitherto unknown facts of our history. I personally feel that the Assam Agitation is one of the biggest reasons that made the world know Assam. It is historically true that illegal immigrants entered Assam. The Andolan didn’t get its desired result. In order to make people aware of all the related aspects the people involved in the Andolan by themselves should come forward to write. One of the prior reasons for me being in politics is Axom Andolan. Or else, I probably would become an engineer.”

Senior journalist Ajit Kumar Bhuyan said, “There’s no written document on this subject matter in literature. This book will surely achieve a milestone. If Mahanta writes another such book, he’ll definitely be at the topmost position in the field of Assamese literature”.

Educationist Krish-nagopal Bhattacharya lamented that the movement is not yet completed. He said, “This book will be a history and it is the first such evidential document”.

Sharing his experience and the sufferings that the people of Assam had undergone during the Assam movement, noted advocate Nekibur Zaman said that he has many valid information and data on the agitation. “If anyone is interested in documenting those data into a written form, I’m ready to share these with him/her,” he said.
