Centenary Celebrations of Palashbari HS & MP School At Mirza Underway

GUWAHATI: As part of the ongoing centenary celebrations of Palashbari HS & MP School at Mirza, a colorful alumni meet, a friendly football match and cultural function were held at the school campus on Sunday.

The school was set up in 1920 and the centenary celebrations started from January 1 this year.

The Sunday’s events were started with Smriti Tarpan at the campus. Anil Das, a former student and a prominent businessman laid the foundation stone of an auditorium for the school at the campus. Das who was also a former national sportsman will bear the entire expenses of the proposed auditorium.

The alumni meet or get-together of former students was presided over by Amrit Kalita. The present principal of the school Amalendu Nath Deka appreciated the effort of Anil Das to build an auditorium at his own cost. He said the auditorium will fulfill a long felt need of the school. Deka also elaborated the glorious history of Palashbari HS & MP School.

The Alumni Association president Nripendra Narayan Thakuria, working president Hemen Das and member of the steering committee of the centenary celebration committee Anup Kumar Medhi were among others who spoke and recalled their school memories.

A friendly football match between the Assam Sports Journalists’ Association and former students of the school was held on Sunday evening. A colourful cultural evening was also held.

The main functions of the centenary celebrations will be held on December 28, 29 & 30 this year.
