GUWAHATI: The Sadou Asam Karmachari Parishad (SAKP), the apex body of over five lakh State Government employees, on Friday accused the Centre of playing a divide-and-rule policy to enforce the Citizenship (Amendment) Act in the Northeast.

"While many NE States have been exempted from the purview of the CAA, the new legislation will also not be implemented only in certain parts of Assam. The entire burden of the Act will have to borne by the people of Brahmaputra and Barak Valleys," SAKP president Basab Kalita told The Sentinel.

Kalita said Delhi and Dispur have miserably failed to understand the sentiment and logic of the people of Assam against the CAA. He alleged that the CAA is evident of cheating of people by the Centre and State Government.

"Being government employees we have certain compulsion and bindings. The government became vindictive when the SAKP joined the agitation against the CAB last time. An employee who joined the stir was transferred to Silchar overnight. We never revealed such development before. But despite all hurdles we are extending full support to the present movement against the CAA," Kalita said.
