Guwahati: In a significant boost to Assam’s global cultural outreach, Michelin Star Chef Vikas Khanna has announced plans to host an exclusive Assam Tea Festival at his renowned New York restaurant, Bungalow. The announcement was made during the 200 Years of Assam Tea celebrations at the Summer Fancy Food Show 2025, where Chef Khanna was the Guest of Honour at a business roundtable organised by the Consulate General of India, New York.
Having visited Assam 11 times, Chef Khanna shared his deep admiration for the state’s cultural richness, the unique character of its tea, and the warmth of its people. “Assam’s tea, cuisine, textiles, and traditions are key facets of India’s soft power,” he noted, adding that they deserve international recognition and celebration.
In a heartfelt gesture, he proposed hosting the Assam Tea Festival at Bungalow as a tribute to Assam’s 200-year-old legacy in the global tea industry. The Assam Government has welcomed the initiative and will collaborate to make the event a success as part of its broader international strategy to promote Assam Tea.
