GUWAHATI: The Citizen Financial Cyber Fraud Reporting and Management System got a complaint from Pulak Nath about an online fraudulence of Rs. 80,000 on March 7. He hails from Morigaon.
The fraudster ripped off the amount from SBI bank account without the victim's knowledge. On receipt of the complaint, the CID, Assam, swung into action and contacted the concerned bank nodal officers over the phone and email and alerted them to trace the amount. During the process, the CID were able to trace the deceitful transfer of the money from one account to four other accounts belonging to three other banks, and freeze the whole amount of Rs. 80, 000 in those accounts.
Due to the timely action of CID, the fraudster was not able to misappropriate the robbed money. Necessary legal action is now being taken to refund the amount to the victim.
The CID have appealed to the public to stay alert and not fall prey to such cyber frauds. People are also requested not to share any otp, CVV, pin, or passwords with strangers or click on any unknown links received through email, SMS, or Whatsapp. If one is a victim of financial cyber frauds, they should immediately call 1930 and also lodge an FIR in the cybercrime.gov.in portal.
