Citizens continue to flout lockdown norms in Guwahati

GUWAHATI: There seems to be no halt to the cases of people flouting lockdown in the city. Despite police being vigil, people are not resorting to their houses and the by-lanes and congested areas of the city can portray the severity of the lockdown which a section of people are following.

Till 4 pm on Sunday, as many as 1,454 people were arrested for violating lockdown norms, leading to the registration of 735 cases against them in the State. As many as 11,200 vehicles, including 10,191 two-wheelers, 122 three-wheelers, 879 four-wheelers, five trucks, one trailer, two tractors etc were seized by the police. Apart from this, 14 country boats and five machine boats have also been seized. An amount of Rs 39,75,700 has been collected as fines for violation of lockdown norms.

Meanwhile, 61 cases have been registered against fake news on social media and mongering rumours related to COVID-19. Thirty-six persons have been arrested in this connection, and nine of them have been released on bail. So far, 15 containment orders have been issued in the State.
