GUWAHATI: A torchlight rally was taken out from Chandmari to the State Zoo-cum-Botanical Garden in Guwahati on Friday against the CAA (Citizenship Amendment Act) and the recent attack on the students of JNU.

Artistes Ajay Phukan, Priyanka Bharali, actress Barsharani Bishoya, AASU (All Assam Students’ Union) general secretary Lurinjyoti Gogoi and others took part in the protest procession. All of them raised the demand for the cancellation of the CAA. Speaking on the occasion, Barsharani said, “The policy of suppression won’t work. We condemn the JNU incident. We’ve taken to the streets as Assamese, not as artistes.”
