GUWAHATI: The Director of Higher Education has addressed a letter to all the government and provincial colleges of Assam over the establishment of career counselling centres. As per UGC XI Plan guideline, there should be a career and counseling cell in all colleges. As per the particulars of the directive, counseling services are to be formalized which will enable the students to get over their social institutions and exclusitivity, which are attributed to their socio-economic and cultural diversities and linguistic barriers. It makes the students more confident and perform better. However, most colleges in Assam do not abide by the guideline.
Recently, the Departmentally Related Standing Committee (DRSC), Assam Legislative Assembly (ALA), held a meeting where it was recommended that in its 43 report on Education 2109 – 20 on point number 8 that there should be an establishment of career counseling centre in each colleges for the convenience of the students.
The inculcation of guidance about market patterns and employability can help the institution in building a base for its students. This exercise will result in their socio-economic integration. As such, the DRSC recommendation has been asked to be treated by all colleges in Assam urgently so that the students can benefit from the same.
