Guwahati: The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) spokesperson, Gauravv Somani on Saturday stated that the National Register of Citizens (NRC) is definitely the most important work in terms of national security, but due to the frustrated mentality of the arbitrary towards various linguistic communities and state-specific people migrated from other states; a large number of real Indians are in a state of great confusion.

In spite of proving clear NRC links, a large number of Hindi-speaking people are being declared as foreigners and there is a huge resentment among the people as many genuine Indian citizens are being sent to the detention camps, claims Somani in a press statement.

He also stated that a fear psychosis sparked amongst the existing people of not having their name or their name being cut from the final NRC. “Situation is that the psychological pressure of being caught by the police and sent to detention camp is being felt so hard that people are ending their life and committing suicide. The government is silent on this whole issue and the NRC officials are doing their arbitrariness, therefore, we urge the Government to make sure that not a single foreigner is being included in the NRC but also to monitor that none of the genuine Indian citizens are left out from the final NRC,” said Gauravv Somani in the press statement.

He further appealed to the government saying that they will have to take full responsibility of the same.

“In the NRC applications given by the families of more than one sibling's parents, the same documents should have been used naturally. Now if the name of a brother or sister or his family has not come and everyone else have been included, who will be responsible for the mess in this process - the government or the NRC investigating officer or the deprived people?” Gauravv Somani questioned.
