GUWAHATI: Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader and Leader of Opposition in the Assam Legislative Assembly Debabrata Saikia has lodged a complaint with the State Election Commissioner (SEC) HN Bora saying that a section of State Panchayat & Rural Development (P&RD) Department officials have been visiting the beneficiaries of PMAY (Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana) in various gaon panchayat areas in the State even as the panchayat poll model code of conduct is in force. “Actually, beneficiaries were selected by the gaon panchayat earlier, but now officials of P&RD, accompanied by leaders of the ruling dispensation, are visiting numerous households in different villages to take photographs of the beneficiaries and their houses and, while doing so these officials and political leaders are requesting the villagers to cast their votes in favour of the ruling party in order to ensure that their respective PMAY houses remain allotted to them,” Saikia said in his complaints.
