GUWAHATI: Following the assurance of the VC (Vice-Chancellor) of CU (Cotton University) to accept 80 per cent of the students' demands, the students' body of the varsity under the banner of the 'Cottonian Jagaran Mancha' withdrew their indefinite stir which had commenced on Thursday in front of VC's office here.

Talking to The Sentinel, the president of CUSU (Cotton University Students Union) -- Hrikok Patowary said, "The Cotton University authorities are yet to accept 20 per cent of our demands. We hope that the 80 per cent demands that they have accepted will see the light of the day soon."

The students' charter of demands are as follows: The semester examinations must be conducted within the slated academic calendar of six months instead of the present system of holding them within the three to four months; announcement of the examination results within time; an arrangement of special examination for the first-semester students who could not appear in that examination due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The students also demanded infrastructure development and modernisation of all hostels; re-opening of girl hostels for Degree Second-Year borders; upgrading of the indoor stadium with modern infrastructure.
