GUWAHATI: A report revealed that Guwahati has seen a large number of crimes of various types in the past few years. As per the records, in this year itself, that is, from January 1 to August 30, 2023, Guwahati has seen 30 cases of rape, 390 cases of crime against women, 19 women-related murders, 1845 thefts, 3 dacoities, 157 incidents of fraud, 230 suicides, one dowry-related incident, and 4 love-related incidents.
In 2022, the city saw 62 cases of rape, 744 cases of crime against women, 21 women-related murders, 2832 thefts, 7 dacoities, 222 incidents of fraud, 396 suicides, 10 dowry-related incidents, and 7 love-related incidents. Similarly, for the year 2021, the city saw 60 cases of rape, 1562 cases of crime against women, 16 women-related murders, 4492 thefts, 5 dacoities, 845 incidents of fraud, 384 suicides, 2 dowry-related incidents, and 8 love-related incidents.
In the year 2020, 39 cases of rape, 1324 cases of crime against women, 10 women-related murders, 3674 thefts, 7 dacoities, 543 incidents of fraud, 369 suicides, 2 dowry-related incidents, and 5 love-related incidents were reported in the capital city.
