GUWAHATI: The Kamrup Metropolitan District's Road Safety Committee held a meeting on Friday, chaired by District Magistrate Sumit Sattawan. The meeting aimed to address the growing concern of drunk driving and take stringent measures to prevent it.
As part of the National Road Safety Month, the district administration has decided to conduct night checking on National Highway 27, from Khanapara to Jalukbari, to prevent accidents. The District Transport Officer has been instructed to ensure proper enforcement of traffic rules and regulations. The committee stressed the need to take action against drunk drivers to prevent unforeseen dangers. The district administration has been instructed to take strict action against drivers found guilty of drunk driving.
The committee emphasized the importance of proper street lighting in accident-prone areas of Kamrup Metropolitan District. The district administration has been directed to ensure that all street lights are functioning properly, especially during night hours.
The meeting was attended by various officials, including the Additional District Magistrate, Ajit Kumar Sharma, and representatives from the transport department.
A road safety awareness programme was also organized for students at Amrit Udyan. The programme included a poster competition and slogan contest, with participants from various schools across the metropolitan area.
