GUWAHATI: Rescuers recovered the body of Deepshikha Hazarika, who had gone missing in the Uttarakhand avalanche, on Saturday.

Hazarika went missing from Mount Draupadi Ka Danda-II in Uttarakhand after an avalanche struck the mountain on October 4.

Deepshikha, a resident of the Rajgarh area in Guwahati, was missing along with nine other fellow climbers for the past three days.

Meanwhile, Deepshikha's father and brother reached Uttarakhand to bring back the body. They will take the body to Assam after the postmortem.

The death toll from the avalanche in the Uttarkashi district has now risen to 26.

An Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH) of the Indian Air Force (IAF) brought seven bodies of mountaineers trapped in the avalanche to Matli.

The avalanche occurred at a height of 17,000 feet on October 4, when 29 people were returning after summiting Draupadi Ka Danda II peak. The climbers from the Nehru Institute of Mountaineering in Uttarkashi went missing after getting trapped in an avalanche on their way back.

Despite weather conditions hindering the rescue operation, the search is on for three more climbers still missing.
