GUWAHATI: The Zoological Society of Assam (Prani Vigyan Samiti, Asom) has expressed concern over coal mining decision in the Dehing Patkai Wildlife Sanctuary.

The society criticized the National Board for Wildlife (NBWL) for their decision to allow coal mining in the rainforest. The society stated that the sanctuary will be destroyed due to the decision. The Samiti's secretary Dr Jogen Chandra Kalita said that there is still time to roll back the decision as per the Enviroment (Protection) Rules, 1986. In this regard, the Samiti is set to submit a memorandum to Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal.
