Guwahati: As the sacred Ambubachi Mahayog approaches, spiritual energy is intensifying at the Kamakhya Temple. The four-day annual congregation, revered by devotees of the divine feminine, begins on June 22 and will continue till June 26. Formerly known as the Ambubachi Mela, the event marks the annual menstrual cycle of Goddess Kamakhya, symbolizing fertility and feminine power.
Thousands of sadhus and pilgrims from across India have already started arriving, with authorities bracing for a turnout comparable to or even higher than last year’s 20 lakh devotees. The temple doors will remain closed for the first three days, reopening on the final day for darshan.
“This sacred time represents the divine power in its most potent form,” said a sadhu from West Bengal who has been attending for five consecutive years. “The energy here is unmatched. I am a son of Maa Kamakhya and have surrendered myself to her.”
Another sadhu from Madhya Pradesh, a regular attendee since 2001, added, “Maa Kamakhya calls her children during this auspicious time. Her blessings bring us back every year.”
Devotees from Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal, and other parts of the country are making their way to Guwahati. Many have been guided by police to official transport that ferries them to Pandu, where dedicated camps have been set up for their accommodation.
A pujari of the Kamakhya Temple stated, “We are expecting a similar, if not larger, turnout this year. All necessary arrangements are being made for the smooth conduct of the Mahayog.”
Security has been tightened, and sanitation, medical aid, and transport services have been enhanced in and around the temple complex and camp areas.
As the countdown to June 22 begins, the sacred Nilachal Hills are witnessing a growing influx of ascetics and seekers, all drawn by the magnetic pull of Maa Kamakhya and the divine energy that Ambubachi represents.
