Divyangs to stage sit-in on Dec 12 at Dispur Last Gate

GUWAHATI: Demanding the cancellation of the conditions set by the Police Recruitment Board in the recruitment of 511 especially able candidates in Grade IV posts and setting up a training centre for sign language, the Assam Association of the Deaf has called a sit-in-demonstration on December 12 at Dispur Last Gate.

The demands include enforcing a law by the Central government to recruit 1% specially able unemployed in every MNC, improvement of educational environment in B.D.S. Deaf & Dumb Government School and Jorhat Deaf School, allotment of special ration/ identification cards to the unemployed deaf & dumb people in fair price shops, a special provisions regarding free bus fare services in government & private sector etc.

Meanwhile, later in the day, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal assured the Association of cancelling the conditions set by the Police Recruitment Board. He has also taken a decision to set up a guest house for Divyangs as demanded by them. Sonowal also instructed the department concerned to accord priority to especially able beneficiaries in Prime Minister’s Awas Yojana.
