GUWAHATI: As per the instructions given by the administration firecracker stalls for Diwali have been set up in 21 different parts in the city. The firecracker stalls in the city are filled with products from local producers, including from Barpeta and Nagaon, as well as from products outside Assam, including Sivakasi and Kolkata.

Besides the regular crackers, including Jugmug and Jolokia bomb and rocket and phulijari, the other crackers popular this year are the kitkat pataka and 50 shorts etc.

The demand and market do not seem to be in sync for the shopkeepers. They said that one of the reasons for the loss of demand of firecrackers is two festivals falling in the same month. The heavy rainfall during the past few days and a few of the illegally set-up stalls selling crackers at lower prices are other reasons for the downfall of the market.
