GUWAHATI: The Durga Puja, apart from worshipping, has become an occasion to showcase art, literature, culture, history, mythology and whatnot. This year also, various Durga Puja committees in Guwahati are set to showcase a whole lot ideas through artistic skills.

Take the case of the Dighalipukhuri Durga Puja Committee. After a decade-long struggle for getting permission for holding Durga Puja there, the puja committee is set to celebrate the puja in an eco-friendly way. Besides carrying out a plantation drive, the puja committee is going to pull the Assamese community together that has been on the wane in the State. It is also going to showcase the traditional Assamese virtues.

The Athgaon Durga Puja Committee has also adopted an eco-friendly approach by making the pandal with sacs and bamboo. Their main showcase piece this time around is the tall statue of Lord Shiva of Tamil Nadu. Lightening is going to be another attraction of this puja committee. It has a budget of Rs 26 lakh.

While the Vishnupur Durga Puja has erected the Ram Temple of Ayodhya, the 44 Gitanagar Sarbojanin Durga Puja Committee has erected a prototype of the Dakshineswar Kali Temple. They have used plywood and bamboo in the pandal. The committee is not going to use any plastic material like cups and plates while distributing prasad.

The Santipur Sluice Gate Durga Puja Committee erected a king’s mansion with a boat atop.

Most of the Durga Puja committees in the city where the footfall is very heavy have been laying more stress on the security apparatus, including installation of CCTV cameras at vital locations.
