GUWAHATI: Fancy Bazar in Guwahati is missing the Eid crowd this year. The businessmen in the popular market are simply taken aback as to why Eid crowed this year is giving them amiss.

Idd crowed in Fancy Bazar was supposed to be very huge on Saturday and Sunday. However, the crowd was not as usual in the prominent market in the city on these two days even as Eid is barely two days away.

According to Sadou Guwahati Byobosayee Santha assistant secretary Nekib Imam Saikia, there are a number of reasons for people giving Fancy Bazar amiss. Saying so, he went on enumerating a whole lot of problems afflicting Fancy Bazar. One of the worst problems afflicting Fancy Bazar, according to Nekib, is ‘no entry’. A number of roads in the Fancy Bazar area have ‘no-entry’ boards erected on them. As if to cap it all, the popular market in the city has no sufficient parking places, Nekib said. “Why should people opt for shopping in Fancy Bazar that has no places for parking of their vehicles?” he questioned.

Nekib also attributed the fall in Eid crowed in Fancy Bazar this year to the rising practice of online shopping among the consumers.

Shiben Dutta, a person doing business in Fancy Bazar, said: “Lack of public toilet facilities is a major problem in Fancy Bazar. If one has to answer nature’s call, he/she has to go either to Muchkhowa or Pan Bazar.”
