GUWAHATI: An elderly lady was murdered in her apartment at Gopinath Nagar in the Kalapahar area here on Sunday night.
The victim has been identified as one Anu Hazarika, who is believed to have been in her 60s.
According to police sources, she was the owner of the Tara Hira complex of the area and used to reside alone on the first floor of one of the two buildings within the premises after her husband's demise.
The sources said that a caretaker found the victim lying face-down in one of the rooms of her apartment on Monday morning. Her hands were bound in front of her body and her mouth was gagged with tissue paper and cello tape.
The caretaker immediately informed the police, who found the apartment ransacked and the CCTV camera damaged.
The exact cause of death is yet to be ascertained, the sources said, adding that investigation is underway.
Two persons have been detained for questioning in this connection by the Fatasil Ambari police.
