GUWAHATI: At the call of the central unions and National Federation of Employees, the Coordination Committee of Electricity Employees Engineers & Pensioners, Assam staged protests in various parts of the State as well as at Bijulee Bhavan in Guwahati on Monday and Tuesday.
The demands of the electricity employees included scrapping of the Electricity Amendment Bill-2021, stopping privatization of public-sector companies, abolition of labour code, scrapping the National Monetization Pipeline Policy, reintroducing the old pension scheme and abolishing the New Pension Scheme (NPS), regularization of temporary employees and filling up of vacant posts, among other demands.
This was the first time that electricity consumers came forward with electricity employees to fight against the Electricity Amendment Bill. Members of the All Assam Electricity Consumers' Association also joined the protest in Silchar.
