GUWAHATI: The Directorate of Higher Education (DHE) has directed seven universities and 337 colleges of Assam to submit utilization certificates (UCs) within August 26 regarding funds deposited in their accounts for 2021-2022 fiscal year for reimbursement in connection with the fee-waiver scheme of the State Government.
According to DHE sources, a total of Rs. 81.71 crore was released to the universities and colleges concerned as the first installment out of a total amount of around Rs 135 crore. The remaining fund of around Rs 53 crore for 2021-2022 could not be released due to non-submission of UCs by the universities and colleges concerned.
The sources said that although the fee-waiver scheme is supposed to continue in the ongoing academic session as well, the DHE has been unable to submit the required budget proposal due to non-completion of formalities for 2021-2022.
It may be mentioned that the State Government had earlier announced a scheme for waiving fees pertaining to admission, tuition etc., for students whose parents' income is less than Rs 2 lakh per annum. The fee-waiver was with regard to higher secondary/degree/masters' degree courses in State universities and government/provincialized/model colleges.
