GUWAHATI: A total of five students and one faculty member of Dispur College in the city had tested positive for Covid-19 during rapid antigen tests on Wednesday.
Following the detection, the health department has directed the college authorities that the college building including the entire premises, desk and benches, washrooms and drinking water facilities are thoroughly sanitized. No order has been issued to shut down the college or cancel examinations. On December 13, as many as 20 students from Gauhati University had tested positive for Covid-19 and on the following day 6 students from B Barooah College also tested positive for the virus.
Earlier, in view of improvement of the Covid-19 situation in the state, the government had resumed physical classes for Classes 1 to 8 and Class 11 from October 19. Further, physical classes have also started for class 12 students in the state from September 6. The classes are being held by following strict Covid-19 protocols such as maintaining physical distance, wearing masks, sanitization of buildings and thermal screening.
