Floods Situation Still Grim In Assam

GUWAHATI: Floods situation in Upper Assam’s Jorhat & Golaghat districts remained grim on Sunday with the surging water of Kakodonga river inundating several villages and breaching embankments in both districts.

While 10 villages in Golaghat district have been affected by the flood, people of 8 villages in Jorhat district are facing severe hardships as their homes have been submerged by rising water of the Kakodonga river. Many villagers are taking shelter in schools and other highland areas.

According to the floods report issued by the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) on Sunday the Kakodonga river has breached an embankment at Borholla under Titabar revenue circle in Jorhat district. Over 3,000 villagers in Jorhat district have been affected by flood, the report said.

The administration in both district have made all arrangements to effectively carry out relief and rescue operations to help the flood victims. The administration is also making assessment of crop damage due to flood.
