Free textbook distribution kicked off in Assam

The Education Minister Ranoj Pegu inaugurated the free textbook distribution programme at the central godown of ASTPPCL at Bonda

GUWAHATI: As the new Academic Session (2023-24) is going to commence from April 1, the process of textbook distribution has been initiated today. The textbooks are printed by Assam State Textbook Production and Publication Corporation Limited (ASTPPCL).

The Education Minister Ranoj Pegu inaugurated the free textbook distribution programme at the central godown of ASTPPCL at Bonda, Narengi in Guwahati. The minister flagged off the dispatch of free textbooks to different districts of the state.

An aggregate of 3,35,43,063 copies have been printed for catering to 60,40,115 school students. The books encompass 19 different languages and 8 different mediums from Ka-shreni to Class 12. More significantly, Mathematics and General Science books from class 6 onward have been printed in English. In the inauguration programme initiated today, the Chairman of ASPPTCL Debananda Hazarika, Vice Chairman Tulasi Borthakur and Managing Director of Samagra Siksha, Assam (SSA) Dr Om Prakash and AHSEC Chairman Rukma Gohain Baruah were some notable persons who attended.
