GUWAHATI: Gauhati Commerce College, one of the premier commerce colleges in the State, got only one rank (9th) in the HS final results in 2020 against three in 2019. The pass percentage of the college this year is 97 against 100 per cent in 2019. The ninth position has gone to Simi Das of the college. She secured 452 out of 500 marks.

Harshit Jain and Simi Das of the college have also secured highest marks, 96 each in CMS. As many as 90 students of the college secured star marks against 89 in 2019. While 275 students of the college passed in first division against 295 in 2019, 100 got second division against 110 in 2019 and 45 got third division against 29 in 2019.

When asked on the results of the college which is not as good as that of 2019 both in ranks and in pass percentage, the Principal of the college, Dr. Homeswar Kalita said, "The overall result is more or less the same."

When asked on the number of ranks from the college falling this year, the Principal said, "It's the overall results that determine its qualitative standards of an institution, not ranks. Even as ranks bring name and fame to an institution, it's the overall results that matter the most."

Though he is happy with the results of his institution, in case of ranking he feels that it is not up to their expectation. "This batch was stronger than that of 2019. The anti-CAA (Citizenship Amendment Act) did have an impact on the results. We do take special classes after the test and give super guidance. However, during the anti-CAA agitation many students were afraid of attending those classes. Somewhere, the communication between students and teachers was missing," he said.
