‘Griha pujan’ of new Assam Legislative Assembly building held in Guwahati

The griha pujan (an auspicious ceremony in a house before entering it) of the newly constructed Assam Legislative Assembly building at Dispur took place today.

GUWAHATI: The griha pujan (an auspicious ceremony in a house before entering it) of the newly constructed Assam Legislative Assembly building at Dispur took place today. The new building is set for its inauguration by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on July 30.

Talking to the media during the ceremony, Assam Legislative Speaker Biswajit Daimary said, "The history of the Assam Legislative Assembly dates back to 1937 in Shillong, from where it got shifted to Dispur. The new Assembly House is complete. We prayed for strength to be able to work for the people of the state, know their problems, etc., from this august House. In the presence of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Union ministers Sarbananda Sonowal and Rameswar Teli, ministers, MLAs, members of various councils, and other dignitaries, the Lok Sabha Speaker will inaugurate this House on July 30, 2023. The next Session of the State assembly will be in the new House."
