Guwahati: Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Gaurav Gogoi on Sunday held a series of crucial meetings at Rajiv Bhawan, Guwahati, to prepare the party’s strategy for the 2026 Assembly elections.

Gogoi first chaired an important discussion with observers appointed for the upcoming Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) council elections. He also met district presidents of the Assam Pradesh Mahila Congress to chalk out plans for strengthening the party’s grassroots network and empowering women workers. The meeting, presided over by Mahila Congress president Mira Barthakur, adopted several proposals to expand organizational strength at the block and booth levels.

As part of the pre-election preparations, the APCC also organized a training camp for newly appointed booth-level trainers. The session was conducted under the supervision of APCC election observer Ripun Bora. Addressing the camp, Gogoi instructed the trainers to return to their respective districts and provide guidance to booth-level workers. Senior Congress leaders, including MPs and Leader of Opposition Debabrata Saikia, advised immediate mobilization of training activities across districts.

Gogoi further urged party workers to take to the public the recent revelations by senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi regarding alleged electoral malpractices, as claimed before the Election Commission. The training camp was attended by MP Rokibul Hussain, Debabrata Saikia, general secretaries, senior spokespersons, and heads of various frontal organizations from 35 districts.

Earlier in the day, Kaushik Kashyap formally assumed charge as the new state president of the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) at a massive gathering of students from across Assam. The event, held at the Manabendra Sharma Complex, was attended by NSUI national president, MP Rokibul Hussain, Debabrata Saikia, and several senior Congress leaders.

Gaurav Gogoi launched a sharp attack on the BJP government, accusing it of turning a blind eye to corruption, misgovernance, and cattle smuggling. He alleged that Chief Minister Sarma was directly involved in several major corruption cases and cited multiple examples of what he called the CM’s “falsehoods.”
