Guwahati: Arrests of thieves lead to seizure of stolen items in city

Guwahati police arrested several thieves and burglars from different areas in and around Guwahati and seized the stolen items.

GUWAHATI: Guwahati police arrested several thieves and burglars from different areas in and around Guwahati and seized the stolen items.

A team from Paltanbazar police station apprehended a person named Papu Ali (24) of Paltanbazar for stealing a sound system and Rs 55,000 from a bus parked near Ulubari petrol pump. The sound system has been recovered.

A team from Fatasil Ambari police station apprehended two snatchers — Prithibi Singh (18) of Bimlanagar and an underage — in connection with a mobile phone snatching case. The two stolen phones were recovered from their possession.

A team from Jalukbari police station apprehended one thief — Abdul Kayum Al Alam of Nagarbera — after he was caught red-handed while trying to steal one battery at Government Ayurvedic Medical College.

Probing a burglary case, a team from Basistha police station arrested two burglars—Jabber Ali (23) of Goroimari and Sunnydul Dewan, alias Sunny (24), of Barpeta—from Kerakuchi. Stolen items, including mobile phones, silver chains, tools and cash, were seized from them. The duo was involved in multiple burglary cases across the city.

A team from Fatasil Ambari police station cracked the case of theft of two bikes from Shatabdi Path in Jyotikuchi within 24 hours with the arrests of Motibar Rahman (20) and Kayakuchi Taher Ali (35). Both the bikes were recovered:

A team from Bhangagarh police station swiftly acted on a report of mobile theft while the victim was waiting in queue at GMCH.

Based on the description, a search was conducted in and around GMCH premises. One suspect was apprehended, and the stolen mobile was recovered from his possession. The accused are Krishna Das (26) and Keotpara, Azara.

A team from Bhangagarh police station cracked a theft case of iron frames from kiosks on Bhangagarh Flyover. A person named Hirak Das (19) was nabbed. He led the police to a scrap shop at B.K. Kakati Road. The police arrested the owner of the scrap shop, Jaidul Islam (35), and another person named Papu Singh (25).

 A team from Gorchuk police arrested Farooq Ali (23), a habitual thief from Katabari. Further probing led to the recovery of stolen items from a dumpyard in Boragaon.
