GUWAHATI: Panic gripped a wedding venue in Guwahati’s Japorigog late last night after a dramatic robbery attempt unfolded at the groom’s residence. A four-member gang of masked intruders reportedly tried to break into the house shortly after the groom had left with the wedding party to bring the bride from Patharquarry. According to eyewitnesses, the gang arrived around 11:45 PM on two motorbikes, their faces covered in black cloth. They attempted to scale the main gate and break through the iron grill using iron rods. Fortunately, their efforts were unsuccessful, as the gate was securely locked and reinforced.
At the time of the attempted break-in, only women were present inside the residence, including the groom’s mother and several female relatives. Startled by the intrusion, they immediately called the wedding party. The groom, Pawan Choudhury, and his relatives rushed back from Patharquarry in two vehicles.
Dispur Police arrived at the scene shortly after and has launched a preliminary investigation. However, Deputy Commissioner of Police (East), Mrinal Deka, played down the incident, stating, “There was no dacoity attempt. It was just a misunderstanding. A minor altercation occurred between a few individuals.”
