Guwahati: Awareness session on child protection conducted in city

Guwahati: In a step towards safeguarding children and promoting awareness about their rights, the Guwahati Police conducted a special awareness session at Amchang Tea Estate Model High School on Wednesday. The session, organized by the All Women Police Station, Panbazar, was led by Officer-in-Charge Inspector Bijoya Das and lasted for 1.5 hours.

Students from Classes VIII, IX, and X participated in the programme, which focused on various aspects of child protection. Key issues discussed included the perils of child marriage, an overview of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, the Juvenile Justice (Care & Protection of Children) Act, child labour laws, and other child-related legal safeguards.

The session also aimed to equip students with crucial information about helpline services. Attendees were sensitized about the emergency numbers: 1930 – Helpline for financial fraud, 112 – Emergency Response Support System,1098 – Child Helpline and 181 – Women Helpline.
