GUWAHATI: In a swift and high-intensity operation, a team from Basistha Police Station has cracked a daring burglary case that rocked Sundaram Apartment in the Jayanagar area of Beltola. On February 26, thieves broke into the apartment, looting Rs 1 lakh in cash, gold ornaments, and other valuables while the owner was away.
The police launched a probe and identified two notorious burglars, Hassan Ali (29) and Rashidul Hoque (26), as the prime suspects. With intelligence inputs, the team nabbed the duo under the cover of night. Interrogation led to a major breakthrough, revealing a shady jeweller, Fajar Ali (45), as the mastermind behind the stolen loot.
A raid at Fajar Ali’s shop uncovered a treasure trove of stolen goods, including Rs 2.5 lakh in cash, gold and silver ornaments, brass bars, melting tools, and two stolen mobile phones. The police also seized an Activa Scooty (AS01BX1932) used during the commission of the crime, as well as clothes worn by the thieves.
