Guwahati: In a shocking incident, a girl child who was sold for just Rs 5,000 almost a month after her birth has been recovered by police nearly 11 months later from Sontoli in Kamrup district.
According to police, the child was born at Gauhati Medical College (GMC). After her birth, the parents returned to their rented house in Games Village after one month. A few days later, the child’s maternal grandfather, Abed Ali, visited them and took the infant away under the pretext of medical treatment. On May 30, 2024, Abed Ali allegedly sold the baby for Rs 5,000.
The matter came to light recently, when the mother of the child lodged a formal complaint at the Basistha Police Station. Acting swiftly, police launched an investigation and managed to trace the now 11-month-old girl child within 24 hours.
The baby was found at the residence of one Taher Ali in Sontoli. Both Abed Ali and Taher Ali have been arrested in connection with the case. Further investigation is underway.
