GUWAHATI: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Assam Pradesh, marked International Women’s Day with a grand event at Kar Bhavan in Guwahati. The celebration, organized by the Assam BJP Mahila Morcha in collaboration with the Guwahati Metropolitan Mahila Morcha, highlighted women’s empowerment and their contributions to society. Nilima Bhagawati, a retired senior professor from Gauhati University’s Education Department, delivered a keynote speech, emphasizing the importance of women in various fields and their role in shaping a developed Assam. Assam Finance Minister Ajanta Neog praised the state’s Arunodoi Scheme, which has been adopted by several Indian states as a benchmark for women’s empowerment. The event honoured several prominent Assamese women for their remarkable contributions to society, including Dhritimala Deka, Padma Shri Parbati Baruah, and Dr. Akshata Narain, among others. Assam BJP President Dilip Saikia presented the honours, underscoring the party’s dedication to empowering women, stated a press release.
